Chance/ Chest Spaces
The game board is designed in the classic Monopoly fashion, but is features property squares representing major compaines in the tech industry. Properties include the Search Engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing, Ask), the Tech Giants (Microsoft, Samsung, Apple), Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr), Video Streaming (YouTube, Netflix, Vimeo), Shopping (Amazon, Ebay, Etsy), and Locations (Infinite Loop, Silicon Valley).
To facilitate game play, we designed and 3D printed a pair of dice for the game. We also created four technology themed pieces for players to use to mark their space as they moved around the board. These pieces would also serve as "switches" and when properly placed would turn on an LED or activate the sound indicating where the player landed. For Property Cards, we printed letters representing each business that could be purchased, with their prices recorded on an insert.
The GO Space, long known as the place where free money can always be found, is revamped in this game of Technopoly. A light sensor on the space can be blocked by an individual who is passing by GO, triggering a joyus sound to be made.

The Jail Space, typically viewed as the worst place to land, has been made a little better in Technopoly by integrating interactive technology. A light sensor on the space can be blocked by an individual who lands there, triggering a sad and annoying sound which represents this space.

The Chance and Community Chest Spaces hold mystery on the Technopoly board - will the result be good or bad? To make finding out a little bit easier, a simple parallel circuit has been wired to an LED under each space. When an individual lands on the space they put their piece down to complete the circuit, turning on the LED and signaling that they get to select a card and learn their fate.
